Hypnosis, The Best Of The Natural Remedies For Panic Attacks
Panic attacks have natural causes and therefore they can be treated naturally as well and it is best to go down the natural route before resorting to unnatural treatments such as medication.
Panic attacks are the result of electrochemical activity in the brain as is everything that you do and so it might make sense to treat with drugs to counteract that activity, but this is not treating the cause of that activity. Ask yourself why this activity started in the brain. Panic attacks are a learned behaviour probably aimed at making you feel awful in a situation that your subconscious mind perceives as a threat so that you stay away from that situation at all costs. The best remedial action for panic attacks is to change your subconscious reaction to that perceived risk – by changing the reaction you change the electrochemical activity in the brain and there is no need for medication. You have learned a new reaction, a new behaviour.
When you suffer panic attacks it seems like there is no way to control them, it feels as if you are in the grip of something way out of your control and so some kind of outside intervention such as drugs may seem the only way.
There are numerous natural remedies for panic attacks. Many therapists will teach breathing and relaxation techniques to help you control the attacks as they come on, teach you safe phrases to repeat to yourself to slow or stop the escalating panic. This can be helpful but it may never remove the dread of one coming on or the stress of having to fight one off.
You could see a counsellor and talk about why you get them and start to understand where they come from and the purpose they serve. Once you know you can alter your responses to the perceived risk through conscious intervention. This can be very effective but is likely to take time.
Being a hypnotist in West Sussex, I am an advocate for hypnosis and feel hypnosis is the best of the natural remedies for panic attacks. In hypnosis I do not focus on helping you control panic attacks, I focus on stopping them entirely. I might do this using any of the following methods:
Hypnotic Symbolism – a panic attack is the result of a subconscious pattern that you run in certain situations. In order to change the pattern, we symbolise it and then change it in hypnosis for a better symbol. As we change the symbol, the pattern changes.
Subconscious negotiation – I talk to your subconscious mind either verbally or using involuntary movements in your fingers – one for yes and another for no – and find a way to appeal to your subconscious so that it agrees to stop them.
Metaphor work – where I engage your imagination fully in the process of solving a problem by getting it to work on a problem that is representative of the real issue e.g setting you free from something or finding something that will give you strength.
Past Life Regression – if there is nothing you can attribute the panic attacks to in this life, it might be useful to go into another where we can deal with the cause. I do not know if this is a real memory of a previous life or another metaphor but it works.
Parts therapy – where I call out two parts of your mind – the part that wants change and the part that does not – and I get them to work together.
Hypnosis is not one tool, it is many, so long as you can be hypnotised. It can be an experimental process sometimes but its aim is to find the quickest and simplest solution to free you up and change your life.
