Hypnosis - not Nicorette Quickmist - To Quit Vaping
Because my streaming service has very kindly added the entertainment bonus of adverts I have seen the Nicorette Quickmist advert rather too many times in the last week or two and I feel like I need to have a little rant about it.
I have used hypnosis to help a lot of people stop smoking over the years, and more recently vaping, so this is a rant that I am qualified to have.
The advert is for a Nicorette Quickmist that helps relieve nicotine withdrawal by spraying a small dose of nicotine up your nose. Surely, another way to word that is:
“It perpetuates nicotine addiction by spraying a small dose of nicotine up your nose”.
Apparently, you are up to two times more likely to quit if you use this product, which is rather wonderfully vague as well. Another way to say that might be that over 50% of people will not quit.
This is being sold as an alternative to vaping. So marketers and nicotine pedlars have introduced vaping as an alternative to smoking, and now a spray as an alternative to vaping. This strikes me as exploitative of some people's desperation to stop smoking or vaping – introducing new hooks that are sold as solutions, but they are just sideways steps.
For the vast majority of my clients, the nicotine addiction is not the problem. The problem is the lies, excuses and justifications that they have told themselves over the years to justify feeding the habit.
These lies, excuses and justifications are at work under the surface of the conscious mind in the same way that hypnotic suggestions work. They are the reason the smoking or vaping habit persists. They are the reason people fall back into smoking or vaping after quitting. This is the reason hypnosis is a good solution to stop vaping, or smoking.
There is often a cigarette or a vape in your hand when you are at you most relaxed, so there's an association. There is often a cigarette or a vape in your hand when you socialise and having a good time, so there is an association.
Because of this, you start to mistake as your friend at a subconscious level, it's companionship, it's soothing, it's familiar, it is always there, and it is not as harmful as smoking as you can do it anywhere and it tastes nice.
It's never 'just' a habit. The addictive properties of nicotine are very mild compared to the self-hypnotic suggestions in your mind that drive the habit. That's why hypnosis is a great tool to stop vaping. Fight fire with fire. Hypnosis can be used to 'un-hypnotise' you from your vaping trance, so that you can choose not to and stick to that.
