Your Ego starts to form as your Self awareness grows. Your Ego thinks it is your entire Self but it is actually only your conscious Self, the part of you that reacts with the outside world. Your Ego has everything you need to keep doing what it is you are doing now. When you face a new challenge though, when life demands something new from you, The Ego must go on a quest for change or you will never face that challenge. It cannot travel out into the world so it must travel inwards, deep into the subconscious, into your inner world, where previously discarded treasures are hidden.

The Hero in a story is a metaphor for The Ego and the hero’s Journey is The Ego’s journey inwards to find the treasure – the part or parts of The Self that The Ego has previously discarded. When life demands something from us that The Ego does not possess it is only The Ego that can save the day. But will often do it with the help from the subconscious self, often seen in stories as a wise man or woman who gives the hero something that will later aid them. In Lord of The Rings this is Gandalf, in The Matrix it is The Oracle and in Harry Potter it is Dumbledore. This characters seem all knowing and always give the Hero what they need to succeed without being by their side all the time. Your subconscious has got your best interests in mind all the time, but these interests do not always seem to be in line with your Ego’s.

In Hypnosis I communicate directly with that unconscious self. I invoke them and get them to give your Ego the actual treasure that you seek rather than just an aid.
