Conscious mind is the tip of the icebergThe conscious mind is the part of your mind that believes it is you, that believes that it is in control, that it makes all the decisions, but it is actually just one part of a far greater whole. But it is just the tip of a very large iceberg. The conscious mind is the essential part of your mind that deals with the external world. It is both rational and logical and fairly inflexible as it has already made up its mind about what is possible and what is not. It calls a spade a spade. In actual fact, its understanding is determined by beliefs and learned ways of doing things that are stored in the subconscious mind. It is the subconscious that is in control bit don’t tell the conscious as it will dent its pride!

The subconscious mind is all imagination and emotion and an almost infinite library of learned behaviours that are stored to enable us to keep being who we are. You have either learned these things through concentrated conscious study, practice and rehearsal, through observing excessive repetition from your environment, through highly emotive experiences or through the inspiration of your imagination. These are the four ways you learn something. The other way is hypnosis. Hypnosis removes the filter of the conscious which can slow the learning process considerably by setting the conscious aside and talking directly to the subconscious and changing what is stored there.

The fact that everything you know is stored in the subconscious is vital to your existence. Imagine how exhausting it would be to have to consciously remember how to do everything every time you do it. But the fact that it is stored in the subconscious and therefore allows you to do everything without thinking about it means that everything you do is habit which means you continue to do some things even though they are no longer useful.

If you are feeling like you need to see a hypnotist then your subconscious and conscious mind have probably slipped out of sync. You consciously want one thing but keep doing another – be that running an anxiety pattern when you do not need to be anxious or eating to comfort yourself even though you no longer need comfort. Unfortunately, it is impossible to change your conscious mind without changing your subconscious mind as the genius of this system is that everything happens outside of your awareness.

Whether you are looking for treatment for anxiety or you want to stop a habit such as comfort eating, smoking or nail biting, hypnosis is the most effective way to learn a new pattern fast so that you do not need spend much conscious effort on it.
